An absolutely beautifully hard story around Michael's life and continued struggle. I loved the raw nature of how he shared about his upbringing, addiction, break into the industry and giving back to his community. He exemplifies what it means to not have to have it all together to make an impact. And WHAT?!?! Queen Latifah even has an appearance!

This is a great memoir. The only way it could be better is if Michael K. Williams was still here to narrate his own story and continue his work. RIP to him.

This memoir was phenomenal, taking me through a rollercoaster of emotions. It gave an honest and raw look into every layer of Michael K. Williams: the addict, the actor, the activist, and the human being. While most knew him for his acting, this memoir emphasized who he was outside of that. As far as his addiction, which he doesn’t shy away from, I appreciated how he took the time to explain and break down the identity and mind of an addict, as well as how they operate. As someone whose mother was an addict, I walked away from this book not only understanding her better, but also the disease of addiction. Michael’s vulnerability and honesty shaped this memoir and made it clear that we lost a sweet soul far too soon. Michael’s story had many dimensions, shedding light on various issues, including parental abandonment, colorism, masculinity, sexuality, violence, and the failure of the justice system. I took so much away from this memoir, realizing there is still work to do. I’m glad Michael was able to share his story with the world. He will truly be missed.
