i'll just say what needs to be said about most medieval-era works written by men: what is the point of so much violence against women? honestly such a shame because i LOVE the writing, even the gore is dome well (for the most part). the plot is interesting enough but the assault mentions just ruin it for me. and to be honest, if you can look past them, that's weird! i understand war is violent, but there is genuinely never a point in including assault mentions 😭 be so for real. also there's a

random moment that seems sci-fi later on? and it's not really explained. maybe it is later in the series

but im not continuing. oh well

i started this book, stopped it once i saw how much assault happens in the first few chapters, started again, stopped, then finally decided to finish it because it's the only book i have with me now i haven't read. so glad to be done with it now

I loved this book so much I immediately read the entire trilogy, which rarely happens for me. I Couldn’t put any of them down! This series is really great. Dark as hell, but great. Check the content warnings for sure.

This is a very strange book. It starts very slowly and nothing much happens at first. Then the story starts to pick up around the 25% mark and it gets very interesting. I was wondering when the fantasy elements were going to appear, because there were none at the beginning of the book. Then we finally saw some magic happening and it was very fascinating, but extremely confusing.

One thing I don't understand is why in this fantasy world; with ghosts, necromancers, and such, Jesus Christ exists???? And why does Shakespeare also exist? I found that so random. I get it, this story takes place on planet Earth, but I just find it very strange that Jesus and the Catholic Chruch exist. I don't know. Like I said, I understand that this takes place on planet Earth, but whyyyyyyyyyy include real-world historical figures? It was so weird, and it took me out of the story every time they mentioned Jesus and freaking Shakespeare.

The last 25% of the book was confusing. And I mean really confusing. Don't ask me what happened because I have no idea. At least I did understand the ending.

I will continue with this series in the future, because I am interested in the story, and I do want to know how Jorg's journey will end.

This book was such a mixed bag to me. The main thing that kept me reading was the setting, I think without it I would have DNF’d it. I won’t spoil exactly what it was since I found the best part was gradually finding out the true nature of this world. I also appreciate the author not rambling and having pointless things, the writing was straight to the point. If anyone else wrote this book I feel like they would’ve stretched it out to 600+ pages so I really appreciate him not wasting my time. However, this is a double edged sword since I feel like Jorg is the only character who has been developed. Speaking of Jorg, he is 14 so he just sounds like an edge lord sometimes and it’s just something I had to get over. What really lowered my rating was the last couple chapters, the conclusion was really rushed to the point of it being unsatisfying. I have no idea if I’ll continue with this series.

I have never given a book a 1 star rating. This one is an exception. It read like a bad fanfiction that an 11 year old boy wrote, while being mad at his parents. All characters have zero redeeming qualities and are extremely sexist. The story has no point to it. All these men do, is kill and rape. Not to mention that the main protagonist was between 10 and 14 in the book and already killed half of the worlds population just because he loves killing. I do not understand how this is a trilogy and I never want to see or hear anything about this book again. I would not be surprised if only men enjoy reading this and I hope no woman ever thought this is an okay book.
