I’d like to start this out by saying that I am a poem lover, I love poems, I’ve read the poet X before and loved that book. However, something about this book didn’t do it for me.
I’m aware that this book is shorter and therefore would not go into detail about a lot of things but I feel like it could have benefited from being longer. I love reading books and feeling some form of connection with the character or at least a good understanding and while I totally understood where the mc was coming from, I didn’t really connect to her, so I didn’t really care. It was an easy read, hence why I finished it and I did want to see where the rest of the story went although I would’ve been fine not knowing.
A lot of things go by very quickly, and that’s really the part that bugged me. It felt like every so often we’d get a new character, something happens, they’re gone for a while, they come back, it’s Wtv and so on.
I did have a few quotes in this book that I did appreciate but I’m usually an avid tab user and this is definitely my least tabbed book. But all things said and done I did at least enjoy the writing style, I love how it read like a conversation and I enjoyed the way things were worded. I just didn’t particularly connect with anything or anyone hence my lack of interest but it did have a good overall lesson so this is probably best for maybe like a middle school level class trying to go into poem analysis but that’s really it for me.
I hope you found this review helpful, Happy reading!

I bought this because I thought it was a poetry book. I was wrong. Anyway.
I really related to / understood the emotions of the character so it got some extra points. Other than that it's just okay.

This is a really quick read! I read the whole thing in roughly an hour while taking a bath. I really wanted to like this book. I enjoyed the authors writing style and there’s some beautiful quotations in the book and water imagery. That said, the book is very fast paced and short. It goes by a bit too fast and it’s hard to connect with the characters before the book is truly over. If I am not mistaken, there is a queer undertone to the storyline of the main character and her tumultuous friendship with her best friend/ex best friend. I would have really loved to see that explored more in depth as I found it incredibly intriguing The prose in this book is great and I love the imagery. I wish it was longer so we could see more character development. The book is essentially short prose of 2-3 months in the aftermath of an ended friendship where the main character learns to not make herself small and to stand on her own. I would have loved to see what happened with some of the other characters and possibly explore some storylines. The book is written in a very slice of life manner. If that’s not your thing, you probably won’t enjoy this book but if it is, great book! I am looking forward to seeing what Browne releases in the future as her writing style is gorgeous.
