A great way to learn about history! And be inspired about plants.

My garden-loving daughter loved this book. Historical fiction, the story leads the reader through a school day with Dr. Carver mentoring the children. A wonderful introduction to a gardening project for elementary aged children.
Lovely illustrations and the book could be included as a companion to many other books on gardening, history, scientists, etc.

A great book for Nature Smart kids! This is really good historical fiction. Dr. George Washington Carver visits an Alabama school and gets students involved in learning about growing food. Even for garden-illiterates like me, this was an interesting read!

I knew a little bit about Dr. Carver's experimentation and work with plants, but didn't know about this aspect. He would go out on weekends and help farmers and other people. He shared with them how they could revive the soil and how to recycle and reuse materials. He shared his knowledge, his time, and his passion for plants.

Nice picture book, fictionalized, of Dr. George Washington Carver's work with a school to help them start and cultivate a garden, learning about plants and how to raise healthy food and care for the land. It's set in the historic time period but reads very contemporary, as many schools do this today.

This book has great information on the environment and also emphasizes problem solving. Dr. Carver asks Sally to look at a plant with very few flowers and try to solve why it isn't growing with the same fervor as the other plants. She works through why it might not be growing as quickly. The watercolor images are beautifully created as well.
