Made me think a bit but probably not as much as it's supposed to. I guess reading this in 2024 is very different from reading this in the 1960's.
Was also expecting things to wrap up as kinda wholesome by how most the reviews on here are like, but ngl I did not find it. Feel like it was a good portrayal of "kids live and learn what you teach them"?
Not sure how half the reviews/blurb thingies that were printed in this read the book as being "funny" though 😶😶

Told over two years through the eyes of three children who are part of a close-knit neighbourhood in Alabama in the early 1930s.
The novel opens by introducing a bit of neighbourhood legend, which helps set the scene and how socially conservative the community really is.
Aticus Finch, single Dad to Gem and Scout, two of the aforementioned children, is a progressive parent and lawyer, which becomes more and more important as we move the novel.
The absolute genius of this novel ìs that it is told through the eyes of three ìnocet children as it drives home to the reader quite how ridiculous the adult world can be sometimes.
It's funny as I was pretty sure I had read this book as a teenager and I remembered the beginning but there was a large swathe of the plot I had completely forgotten, so much so that I assumed I must not have finished the book but then I remembered the end, so I must have completed it.
I can imagine teenage me not really appreciating the more nuanced aspects of the plot, particularly when it came to Atticus' willingness not to follow the conversations of the time. So, I am really glad I read it again as an adult.
I think this really deserves its classic status.

Score: Two points out of ten.
I didn't enjoy To Kill a Mockingbird at any point in the book. I saw this one circling my recommendations, making me want to read it. When I discovered my library had this, I immediately wanted to pick it up. Soon enough, it was time to read it, and I initially thought it would be enjoyable, but it wasn't.
Spoilers ahead. I've warned you.
To Kill a Mockingbird ignores the fact that Black people and other minorities stood up for themselves to stop injustice and instead sends a message that only white people can stop racism for them. I would've liked the characters if they didn't play the white saviour. All I see is racism from the white perspective, and never hear from any of the Black characters. The last 100 pages weren't much better as all the characters in this fictional composition reflect on what happened, but not before one of them delivers a speech on colourblindness and how race doesn't matter and they are all only people.
To summarise, this piece of fiction from the author initially seemed promising, but when I closed its final page, I felt disgusted. You can read other books concerning discrimination like The Hate U Give instead of this.
