very very very good, philosophical yearning combined with sublime realism of both male and female experiences. just not quiteee as good as the other lawrences I've read as less beautifully sensual (probs appreciated by some - obviously was still banned, ofc). lawrences ability to stand steadfast against societal conventions and expectations and truly imagine a new, alternative, freer world is unmatched.

While I do think D. H. Lawrence writes of human thoughts and conditions that many of us must also think about, his writing just isn’t for me.

A friend highly recommended this book to me and I’m sorry to tell her that I found the majority of it insufferable. Maybe I’m too stupid to understand what was really going on, but the whiplash of emotions was just too much for me.

Also Rupert Birkin is a cult leader.

i initially started this book because of hugh dancy, didn't really think i would enjoy it but i actually ended up loving it!!! Different points of view with the four characters, the long debates about life and relationships and the character's oppositions and conflicts within themselves was really fun to read. They literally represent me with my daily thoughts.

DNFed it close to the end because, unfortunately, I lost interest.
Had to read it for school and it was pretty interesting, but having put it down for about half a year, I don't think I'm going to continue.

Don't let the title fool you, this is a book about two men in love. Plus a lot of philosophy

Influential, to be sure; important, absolutely. But written with all the grace of a man with a pegleg heaving bags of cement up six flights of stairs.

Very naval gazey and “deep”… isn’t actually? This dude just isn’t for me I think.
