Smoke and fire seems to follow Lauren since she moved from California. Will the past repeat itself with her new relationship?
Lauren isn’t the only one that tragedy follows. Her new boyfriend, Robbie Cresmont, is from a family that has a body count. Last summer Robbie’s girlfriend Victoria mysteriously drowned at the family’s lake house while he slept, and everyone thinks he is the one responsible. Desperate to get away from her past, Lauren struggles with her conscience to do the right thing when she finds evidence that might implicate Robbie. But she needs to deal with her past decisions in order to find the murderer before she ends up dead.
Overall rating 3 / 5
This book is destined to be a Lifetime movie. The dynamic Lauren has with all the relationships in her life is self destructive and relatable. Lundy sets a typical high school setting of new girl versus bullies but adds extra twists. I felt I had the ending figured out but was surprised by who the murder actually was. I also really wanted more depth with certain characters or more of a 3rd person point of view.

*Thank you to Trish Lundy, Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for the audio copy. I am freely leaving my honest review.

So this was was hyper interesting thriller. There is a murder within a murder mystery, complex characters, and lots of a heavy themes. I really enjoyed the way the story fleshed out, especially as I feel like most thriller novels rush the reveals. The main character read like a angsty trauma filled teen and I could see parts of my younger self in her. I love the backstory complexity that was featured.

Overall, it was a great thriller and had me hooked. The audiobook is top tier

All I can say is that it was definitely an exciting read, however the ending wasn’t very satisfying.
