Si pudiera viajar al pasado y cambiar sólo una cosa de mi vida, cambiaría el haber leído este libro.

How did I find myself reading about a 20 year old girl?
It was a good story, kept me engaged but at times it just felt so out of proportion to what I live. I need to stick to the 30yr+ crowd.
Aleena - always loved her brother’s best friend, ever since she was a little kid. Pretty much waited for him to come back into town. Wishy washy. What did Jared see in this girl? Her body.
Jared - ran away at 16, or should I say went to juvie. Keeps the ghosts of the past in his pocket, doesn’t deal with his emotions and what needs to be done in order to move on.
Sigh. The unnecessary drama here bc of this guy…
Just going to take it from her while he’s here, even though he doesn’t believe he deserves it. -> newsflash, this is a douchey attitude.

Oh my! This book is a beauty. A.L. Jackson has a way of writing a love story that consumes you - the emotions are so potent that they intoxicate you.
Jared and Aleena's story is heart wrenching and hopeful. Jared is a man with a tortured past, and he's finally come back home after running away six years ago. Aleena is his best friend from childhood, and she tries desperately to show Jared that he belongs, and that he deserves love and happiness. She tries to reach Jared, tries to get through all his self-hate and blame, but Jared's sorrow is soul deep, and fighting through all that hurt and guilt is a battle that Aleena fears will leave her just as broken as Jared.
I love this type of story and l love these types of characters. This story is about coming home, and finding peace with your past. Jared has to face his demons and find a way to allow himself to live, for himself and for the ones who love him. As much as I love Jared and feel for him, I think I love Aleena more. She's so strong and steadfast, being a beacon of light for Jared, so that he can find his way through the darkness.
Alternating between the past and the present, Jackson developed these characters perfectly, and now I'm very much invested in their story. This book ended beautifully, but still left so many questions unanswered. The author set the foundation for what I'm sure will be an enthralling series, and I can't wait to read Come To Me Softly! Read this book!

!!!!!! I don't even know where to start with this book. It was absolutely fantastic! The chemistry between the characters was hot, and it was emotional. There were a couple of times that I caught myself crying. I loved Aly ad Jared and can not wait to see how their story continues.

Method: audiobook
Rating: 4/5 stars
H rating: 4/5 - Jared. Extremely troubled dude, I understood his grief, but he pushed the h away so much it hurt.
h rating: 4/5 - Aleena. I really liked her, but was just unsure if for her mental state it was a smart idea to keep on with him..then when it got to the point that it was unreal to not continue with him it felt like it was a no other choice thing.
Drama: 4/5 - Previous trauma is the main issue for the drama.
Thoughts: A LOT of push and pull from this couple. I understood to a point his self hate and need to hurt himself and feel undeserving, but there was just so much pushing and so much angst that it sucked. I was also hoping for an epilogue, but I understand now that there is a book 2. I do not think I will read book 2.
Great great book, really enjoyed this however only criticism is that Christopher's could have been shortened down Chris... That's All! amazing book though
This read was an emotional journey through pain, devastation, love, and healing. A.L. Jackson's characters come to life in this well written New Adult emotional romance. I couldn't put it down, and am looking forward to her next book in The Closer To You Series out this July.
This was a Goodreads First Reads book win.
This book is okay and I can see why others would enjoy it. Unfortunately, the story and style of the story telling really did not appeal to me. Why?
I like a well-written romance novel but this one was too cardboard. The main characters did nothing but try and fight attraction to one another when in each others presence. It is mentioned they have jobs, they occasionally talk to other people (though all about one another and the attraction to one another), but otherwise they have no lives. It is like they exist to try and not jump each others bones while wanting badly to do so. They do a lot of thinking about curves of jaws and hot long legs....and it gets mind-numbingly boring. That is the whole plot: Jared and Aly want to screw but deny themselves this so obsess over one another for almost the whole 384 pages. YAWN!
Jared: he needs therapy. He is an raging a-hole. He is a sexual martyr. He hates himself. He hates everyone else. He had a tragic thing (that is not revealed until the last f-ing chapter in the book!) happen to him as a teen. He wants to screw Aly. He is the type of guy no woman with half a brain would bother falling in love with unless she had low-self worth and liked abusive relationships.
Aly: She is boring boring boring. Boring and a cock tease as well. She LOVES Jared from childhood like a good little doormat. She can only think of Jared and fills sketchbooks of drawings of him. No other man touches her heart as much as Jared does. He is her destiny. She allows him to scream in her face, shove her away, threaten her verbally, and that only makes her want to screw him more. She feels she needs to hide her love for him with her friends and family which is a HUGE red flag that he is not good news.
The rest of the characters? They are just one note blanks that are there for Aly to tell she is really into a guy she cannot name for fear they will tell her not (wisely) to see him, for Aly to be told by them that she should "be careful" because Jared is dangerous, or for them to warn Jared to stay away from Aly.
They finally have sex 1/2 through the book and then feel the need to hide the sexual relationship from everyone. It is all so unhealthy and they boink like bunnies whenever Aly's brother is not home, quickly, before he gets back.
Really...this book would have been at least a little more interesting if the characters were not so obsessed with one another and had actual lives beyond wanting to screw one another.
Because of the lame story-telling I dropped a "meh it's okay" book to 2 1/2 stars instead of 3. This book is perfect for those who loved Fifty Shades of Grey, Beautiful Disaster, and other abusive relationship story-lined books. Otherwise, it may strike you the same way it did me: as a boring, eye rolling, turn off.

Told from dual perspectives along with flashbacks we gain insight and become swept up in these beautiful, complicated characters. Jared wears his scars in the form of tattoos. As Jackson peeled back his layers, we see his vulnerability and experience his pain. He is filled with rage and guilt and each day is a challenge. Aleena is strong and sweet. She can still see the boy beneath the cold hard exterior, and she slowly and carefully rebuilds their friendship while holding tight to the feelings in her heart along with her secret. The waltz they danced was sweet, painful, soft and passionate. Christopher seems like your average college boy, but I think there is more to his story. I loved that Aleena had a close relationship to her parents and sought her mother out for advice. From keywords, Jared used it is clear he had some professional help, but I wish yet again that the characters recommended it…even if Aleena was able to get Jared to open up. Since this story will continue, it is my hope Jared gets additional help.
Come to Me Quietly was beautifully written, and the characters came to life allowing me to feel their emotions and become swept up in their relationship. I loved how Jackson wrote this, from the dual perspectives to the flashbacks. She slowly revealed the tragic event and the fallout that resulted in Jared leaving town. While this was an emotional read, it was relatively low on angst and unnecessary drama. I love the friendship to lover’s trope, and it added to the depth of their relationship. Through her powerful writing I became connected to these characters, cheered their growth, mourned set-backs and desperately sought my HEA. The tale ended well, with a few reveals and developments that I am anxious to see unfold. A beautiful start to a powerful romance.
