Lovely!

I really enjoyed Kamila Knows Best! I felt like it had a really compelling plot, and lovable characters, both main and sideline. One thing I do wish, is that there had been a little more spice. I liked the way the slow burn progressed, and that we got a real idea of Rohan’s feelings before Kamila did, but I still would have liked the scene w the sari in the rain to have been a LITTLE hotter, especially since there was so much build up to it. Overall, though, a winner for me!

This was a wonderful adaptation of Emma, with changes that really added to the story and the overall message of the book. It tackles issues of abusive parents, sexism, mental illness, and how societies pressures impact us all differently, all while telling a fun and enjoyable familiar tale.

I held such high expectations for this book when I heard it was a re-telling of Emma, my favourite Austen novel, however I sadly just couldn't get into it. For me the plot was far too slow and I think Kamila as a protagonist simply lacks some of the key characteristics that make Emma fundamentally who she is. I infamously don't get along with romance novels anyways so I am hit or miss - I've no doubt that someone who loves their romance will get along with this perfectly.

To be honest, this book was mediocre at best. The characters felt overly exaggerated and stereotypical. I thought I would have enjoyed it more than I actually did which is unfortunate.
