I was so happy to finally read Nika's story! I loved the unexpected ending. I just wish more of the previous couples would have been involved a bit more.

When Nika was little her sister Tori was taken by s'gath demons from there house and Nika was infected by the demons as they took her blood. The result of the blood taking left Nika's mind splintered as she is a psychic and the more s'gath demons that shared her blood the more of them that she was connected to and the more her mind splintered. Madoc is on the verge of loosing his soul and he is trying everything in his power to kill off as many of the demons that share Nika's blood as possible she she can have her mind completly back again. Although he is in love with Nika and Nika with him he refuses to be with her out of fear that he will hurt her so he has been staying away from her even though she needs him and vice versa but Nika has grown a backbone and refuses to give up.

I love Nika and Madoc together. I was so happy to see that this book was finally going to have their story as the main one. Of course there is many side snippets to other couples and going on but it all flowed together perfectly to bring a story full of action, suspense and passion. I was able to connect with the characters as I always am in Ms Butcher's stories. You defiantly need to read all the books in the series to follow along so make sure you grab book 1 Burning Alive if you haven't already read it.

I gave it a 4/5

Really good story, but nothing overly spectacular. No big reveals about the world and its mythology, but there are confirmations of some suspisions we've had from earlier books.

My only real point of contention with this book is that there is a pretty harsh near-rape scene close to the end. It is easily surpassed, and it provides the trigger the heroine needs to help save the day, but it was still kinda harsh.

Little Nika's mind finally heals, and she finds her Sentinel beau who helps her save her baby sister from some real bad people. All in all quite enjoyable and looking forward to the next one.

Enjoyed this book much better, though still frustrated with no real info on the overview. Lots of action, and definitely liked the ending!

Living Nightmare
5 Stars

Synopsis:
Nika Madison has been trapped in a nightmare for nine years but now she is slowly coming out of it and has one goal – to save her younger sister from the monstrous Synestryn holding her captive. Unfortunately, Nika’s psychic connection to her sister is fading and only one person has power to help Nika re-forge that bond: Madoc, a Sentinel Warrior with a bare lifemark who wants nothing to do with Nika.

Review:
Amazing read that keeps you turning the pages!

As in the previous books, the overall story arc continues to develop and there are some surprising twists and turns. There is a large cast of characters to keep track of, but each has a compelling personality and story that grabs you and won’t let go.

Nika and Madoc are both tortured and damaged but find themselves irrevocably drawn to each other. Their chemistry is simply mesmerizing and they share some of the most romantic moments in the series. Madoc is hanging on to his humanity and honor by a thread, and is terrified of the danger that he poses to others, especially Nika. He tries to keep himself at a distance but finds it difficult to fight against the temptation that she poses. Nika is stubborn and determined with a strength of will and capacity for love that makes her impossible to resist.

Overall, an exciting and action packed story but be forewarned that there are several dark and disturbing scenes that may make some readers uncomfortable. The next book is Logan’s and I am looking forward to seeing things from a Sanguinar's perspective.

"it was glaringly obvious to her, but no one else seemed to see it. and that, in a nutshell, was the story of her life. she saw things no one else did, and no one believed."

"we're back to this, are we?"
"we never left this. the fact that no one listens to me does not change the truth."

"I wont let you ignore me. I wont let you treat me like i'm not here. I matter, damn it. I may be crazy but I matter!"

"you're not going to do that thing again - that thing you did in the graveyard."
"it's cute you think you can stop me."

"you're making me crazy."
"its not so bad. you might even like it."

"you try to stop me and i'll find a dozen new and interesting ways to make you regret it."
"I would never dare to stand between a woman and the man whom she plans to teach a lesson. I prefer to watch the show."

I liked it better than some of the other books I've read in the series so far.
