Couldn’t finish because of the stale stereotypes. Here is a list of the items that bothered me so much to the point I just couldn’t go past page 135.

1. The leadership roles are filled by men. Any position of power and respect is filled by a male character. The women that do have positions of power are either portrayed as fools, barely have any input, or are not respected by the rest of the characters. The doctor is male, the secretary is female, the main character is male with his sidekick girlfriend Summer (who is famous and a model), the owner of FunJungle is male, the lead security is male, etc.
2. The consistent fat shaming of Marge. This is teaching young people who read this book that someone’s size is fair game to make fun of and laugh about. I’m not okay with this and frankly appalled that this book is so popular.
3. The main suspect for the kidnapping (I didn’t finish this book so maybe this will change?) has a name that implies ethnic descent: Carlos Gomez. This is feeding the implicit bias that people who aren’t white are dangerous.

It is my strong belief that young adult authors should be ESPECIALLY mindful of these stereotypes and gender roles in their works. These young minds are so impressionable.

The story line itself is very cute and a wonderful idea for a plot.

I love this series. I really liked this one. I figured this one out early on in the book, but I enjoyed getting there. The relationship between Teddy and Marge is great in this one. I can't wait to keep going forward with this series.

This was my least favorite of the FunJungle books so far, because it relied too heavily on cliches. Teddy and Summer both had little-to-no character development, and the plot itself seemed muddled down with random characters Gibbs wanted to incorporate from the other FunJungle books. I applaud what Gibbs was going for by having continuity, but it seemed like a massive stretch. Overall, the writing was still good, and it the series is still one I would recommend.

Teddy is still at FunJungle (this time dating Summer) when a panda is supposed to arrive. When the trailer arrives, they realize that no panda is to be found. Of course, Teddy gets down to business, solving this mystery.

I loved this read so much. It was exciting, and had a little more character development in it than the last few books. The only reason it’s not a 5 star is that I guessed where the panda was early on, I felt that it was a little too obviously written. Otherwise, fantastic story and fantastic writing.

There were a couple of places in the book where we stopped so we could talk about why some of the behavior in the book that wasn't framed as bad, would not be okay in real life (like pulling someone's pants down at school, or anywhere). But overall, this was very enjoyable as a read aloud to my kids. I especially like the way real animal facts are used so that we all learn things

Cute mystery. I haven’t read any of the others but that didn’t hurt my ability to understand the story. If you like Hiaseen and Korman you will like these.
