Another good solid Jimmy McSwain story. This one took me a bit longer to get into but it certainly built up into an emotional roller coaster, especially for Jimmy.
Jimmy always seems to one and half steps foward but two back in his Foeever Haunt case - and this time the highs and lows were extreme
Spoilerfrom the nearly solved to having that certainly yanked away. But Blue Death and a cover up must come into play in future books

Jimmy does seem a bit lost without Frank in his life and I'm glad they got back in contact, both case wise and personally. Their on/off 'romance' will rumble on! The only note of discord I have is when Jimmy and Frank are intimate, their words and actions don't give me the depth of feelings - almost like they have been slotted in later with a different tone to rest of story. I get more tension from them in the interrogation room!
I did get the poison pen writer right! The other theatre issue was a good whodunnit with plenty of suspects and a decent sting in the tale.
Looking forward to the next book later in the year.

I listened to the audiobook. Story was really good and the narration by Joel Leslie, as usual, was fantastic. Both storylines ran well together. There were interesting twists and turns. Some elements the reader will probably figure out fairly quickly. The author does a great job with red herrings but then with also providing clues to the answers.

The overarching mystery that continues through the books still remains a mystery but some progress is made here.

I really like these books and it’s frustrating to have to stop when I want to read rather than listen. The books aren’t available in ebook even though the author’s website says they are. It appears however that they are in the process of being re-released as I just saw the first one, with a new cover design, was released as a kindle book on Amazon this week. I am hoping they get the others up quickly.

This series gets better with every book. I went through books 03 to 06 non-stop and I regret nothing!

Stage Fright deals, as always, with the subject of Jimmy father's death, but the particular case in here is one close to home: he has been contracted by the owner of the theatre in which his mom is head-usher and where he spent a lot of time as a child. To complicate matters even more, the costume designer of the play is his ex Remy.

And there is another case taking his time: Seetha Assan, the sister of Rashad Assan, the man killed by Frank at the end of [b:Crime Wave|25972283|Crime Wave (The Jimmy McSwain Files, #2)|Adam Carpenter|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1441795350l/25972283._SY75_.jpg|45880234] and who was, somehow, involved in his father's execution, called asking for help and then.... disappeared.

There is a lot going on here, and the story advances at a very quick pace, never taking a breath :P

The relationship between Jimmy and Frank is... not happening. Their connection is there, undeniable, but there are also too many things getting them apart. And, in a way, I want them together. But I also know they might feel the pull getting stronger between them, but they are not ready to give in to it.

I loved the stand-alone story, the plot perfect and carried in a way that made it obvious... once the solution is put in front of you :P

But what keeps me coming back for more is the way in which Jimmy seems to be getting close to the solution of his 'forever haunting' case. This need to understand the whys of his father's death is his main motivation for what he does, and nothing (and nobody) seems important enough when compared to it. Makes you wonder what will happen to him when he solves it...

And now, to the next story!
