Thank you to the author for providing an e-arc.

This is a super cute short story and I can't help but want a full length novel with these characters! Rodrigo is such a sweet character and I'd love to know more about him, how he got his powers etc. I love a good hero-villain dynamic which this book definitely had. Altogether a really great read and I highly recommend this.

ARC provided by the author.

So in one word: CUTE.

This is a short novella about a superhero with super-strength, his very much super sidekick that's a dog, and a Robin Hood-style villain who can freeze time. There are rich parties, clubs, bad neighborhoods, and super-powers but most importantly - the overwhelming feeling of warmth (the metaphorical kind but since it's set in Brazil, I'm assuming also the literal one).

I absolutely adore the main character. He's this perfect blend of (unintentionally) cute & snarky and he just wants to be a proper superhero, okay. But honestly, it's amazing how well all the characters are fleshed-out, given this is like 12k words long?? Which brings me to another point: one of my favourite parts of this story was the relationship between Rodrigo and his grandma. He hasn't really talked with her since before he started his transition and so was avoiding her when she visited him & his sister for a few days. And yet, grandma surprises everyone by being the loveliest woman!

Anyway, you can get this awesome novella on gumroad for a dollar!!

*ARC received in exchange for an honest review. The thoughts are my own and in no way biased.*

Arch Nemesis is the story of Rodrigo and his quest to become a better superhero than the one he already is. He’s just an up and coming superhero with only one bad guy under his belt and he wants to stop this thief from robbing people in clubs. Is he able to do it though, is the question.

What I loved most about this story was without a doubt, Rodrigo. He is such an amazing character. He’s just someone who’s trying his best to do the right thing. He’s also sarcastic as hell and absolutely funny. So, yeah. Awesome. On top of that, there’s his relationship with his sister who he absolutely admires and his grandma, who hasn’t spoken to him since he revealed he was trans. The exploration of familial relationships and accepting someone as they are and loving them nonetheless is done so beautifully in this story and it absolutely made my day reading it. Really, so nicely done.

Then, there’s Bibi, Rodrigo’s nemesis, aka the thief he’s been trying to catch. She is also a very good character and I really love her spirit. She’s like… she’s absolutely awesome. Funny and blunt armed with a dry sense of humour and a cool superpower, she’s a great nemesis. Her interactions with Rodrigo never failed to bring a smile to my face. Really. So much fun!!

I absolutely enjoyed reading this short story and you guys should nab it ASAP because it is sooooo good!!

This is such a cute little short story! It's about Rodrigo, a trans boy with superstrength, and his sidekick dog trying to stop a villain and make a name for themselves. Except the villain is a super cute and pretty girl who can freeze time and make Rodrigo's heart climb up his throat. I love them! There's another character that I adore, and that is Rodrigo's grandma. She's such a sweet and lovely person. I love the conversation they have in Rodrigo's room. It makes me feel so warm.
