When I first bought this book I wasn't sure what to expect but I found it charming and introspective.
Nick draws you in and as a child of alcoholic parents, I connected deeply with the love and fear dynamic of that type of household. Even when he describes himself being a complete jerk, there is a self-effacing charisma that will make you smile. And he's led an interesting life.
Many memoirs are a slog but Nick kept his notes and chapters into short, interesting anecdotes that were easy to read and I found myself done with 50% of in one night's reading. I learned a lot of slang :)
Come for the funny and tragic, stay for the smiles and warmth.
