It's interesting to read Hold Still after having read We Are Okay. I can see elements of this biok in Nina LaCour's later work, which only made me appreciate her writing more. LaCour just writes grief so well and while this wasn't an easy read because of its subject matter, it was a really good one.

Maybe it is possible to glue pieces of a shredded heart back together. It might not be completely whole again but maybe that’s okay

I actually really enjoyed this book despite giving it 3.25 stars because it touched on issues close to my heart such as teen mental health and sexuality (whilst not making the sexuality the focus). The reason I didn’t rate it higher is because its very YA- and i struggle to find the depth of character I’m looking for when the protagonists are teenagers. I would still recommend this book to people who want a book that is easy to read in language but touches on important and deep issues.
