I was with Yinka throughout her journey. I pitied her, disliked her at times, but eventually came to understand and even love her. As a Nigerian woman also facing the pressures of marriage, her story resonated deeply with me and gave me a newfound confidence. It’s truly a beautiful and inspiring story.

It was grossly underwhelming. A book about Nigerian aunties with English names for all of them???

It seemed like a watered down African story that was made cool for the western world. Only about 5 Yoruba words were spoken in the book. Most of the cultural aspects were glossed over.

It didn’t seem to portray the Yoruba culture at all.

I really wanted to like this more than I did. The cultural aspects were wonderful but otherwise it felt like a stale storyline. I had a hard time getting into it.

2.5 stars. Simply put Yinka, at her big age, was too old to be acting the way she was acting lol
