I started reading this book without many expectations but I enjoyed it. I loved the plot where the witch marries the witchunter. Part of the plot was predictable but I still enjoyed the plot twist.

TLDR Review for Serpent & Dove

3.5/5 stars

The first 100-200 pages read with all the pleasure of rubbing sandpaper on your face, but it's a necessary evil for background and believability. Thankfully, it gets better quickly after that.

Highlights:
📚 (Completed!) Trilogy Starter
🇫🇷 French setting
🧙‍♀️ Witch trials
🎭 Hypocrisy
💍 Forced marriage
🧲 opposites attract
😈 Mutual corruption
🧶 Fluffy romance
🔥 How is this tame enough for YA!?
🎢 Emotional rollercoaster
🗡️ Sacrifice
🩸 graphic murder, dying, and death

This was like a Nina/Matthias fake marriage AU written by someone who hated both Nina and Matthias.

I loved this one a lot more than I thought I would. For the most part everyone was a complex, nuanced character. The humor and wit was doubly entertaining, and I enjoyed the motivations for everything being so well-thoight out. Even the surprise realizations were entertaining. I look forward to the next book.

I tore through this book, and am dying to read the sequel. I genuinely appreciated the amount of emotion expressed through the characters, it made them relatable and real while still allowing me the escape I crave when reading a good story. I also want to applaud the author for her very relevant jabs at patriarchal society, religion, and feminism. Lots of parallels, very enjoyable.

Lastly, we need more stories with tall, red headed men in the leading male role. They’re under appreciated and deserve the attention red headed women often enjoy. Gingers unite!

I saw this was new at Barnes and Noble so I decided to read it! Y’all this is a “Who needs sleep anyway?” Kind of book! When I wasn’t reading this book I was wanting to be reading this book. You fall in love with the characters and the story keeps you wanting to turn the pages! I can’t wait for more! I love Louise and Reid’s relationship and watching it evolve over the book! I’m SO glad I decided to get this book when I saw it! This is such a great debut from a new author!
