I really enjoyed this story. I liked the vibe of the world, a sort of Renaissance French witches vs religious witch hunters story. I disliked the male mc at first but as his character developed, he started growing on me. The main plot was a bit predictable, but there were still some plot twists I didn't see coming. I'm curious about the rest of the series!

I think I'm in love with the fmc. Must be her "i-don't-give-a-fuck" attitude toward everything. As for the mmc, he's sweet but aside from that i don't see no personality.

The plot is good but it's kinda confusing for me. There's no time reference and not much detail about the world. I don't even know the mmc's age.. lol.

Either way, I enjoyed reading it. The ending wasn't satisfactory nor was the 3rd part of the book but anyway. I'm rating this book on fmc alone. 

It's been a very long time since I've found a fmc with a spine and a impressive mouth( not like that). 

I don't know if I'll continue the series. I've got what I wanted and I can kinda see where the story's going so imma put in down for now. Reason is the YA writing style. The writing is beautiful and engaging, no doubt, but I still kinda not completely connect with it.

The story is good and I think those who enjoy YA will really like it.

It was so close to being a good book by around the 75% mark,

what with the rescue plot

and interesting lore

. But even praise like that won't save the book from being an asinine number of aggravating scenes strung up together in the semblance of Something Happening, its too-literal interpretations of the real-life Church in what amounts as a medieval fantasy France (where everyone speaks in modern slang, apparently), base-level engagement of gender dynamics and repression, and the lack of organic chemistry between its leads. 

Horrific to go through. I was spending the last half checking to see how far I was away from the ending.

It definitely did not live up to the hype for me and I didn't really love the romance in this book: it felt a bit forced and rushed. But, I did find the portrayal of witches and magic really interesting! The magical aspect was the main thing that kept me invested, as for me I did not get that invested in the plot until around Act 3.

I found Lou being the character I liked the most all in all - however that doesn't count for much in the end due to how I found almost all of the men in this book to be perverted and creepy. (Whether that was intentional or not).

Not sure if I will continue with this series or not.

This book had the potential, and I really really liked the plot. It was unique but the execution was awful. I'm actually sad that I did not like it this much, especially since Ansel is my new found boy. It was also lacking in terms of Lou's magic, I know she's hiding, but I wanted to see more of her witch side. Aside from that, the book is way too long, I would have loved it if it were shorter. I still think that I would read the next books, and I just truly hope it gets better.
