To this day the story of the Curtis brothers and the greaser friends that make up their adopted family is one of my favorite books ever. I read it once a year and it is has become so comforting that reading it is like cuddling up in a big blanket of familiarity and warmth. I love the character Ponyboy Curtis probably because I relate to his dreaminess and longing. I wish I had a gang of friends as loyal, funny, and fierce as Pony, Sodapop, Darry, Johnny, Dally, Two-Bit, and Steve. This book definitely deserves to be considered a classic not in just young adult literature, but literature in general.

The character labels of greaser and socs are dated but the struggle for acceptance and grief over the loss of family and friends still rings true.

It would be so predictable if the entire text of my review were "Stay gold, Ponyboy."

We read this in seventh grade language arts. We all had to memorize "Nothing Gold Can Stay."

I’m going to be completely honest, I’m pretty sure I read this for school 12+ years ago, and I remember almost nothing about it other than it had a profound effect on my gender.
