I enjoy the Luna series. The story is, in my opinion, excellent.

But MAN, McDonald makes it difficult. So much of the world building feels either tacked on or drawn from the 2019 “what to include in an APPROPRIATELY INCLUSIVE SCI FI NOVEL” playbook. I also never want to see the words “sinter” or “regolith” ever again.

And yet the parts that click click so well. Great story. Ok book.

Half the time I have no idea what's going on with these books. But I also follow along enough to be very intrigued. But still kind of have no idea wtf is going on. So confusing. Too many people and names of things and a completely incomprehensive glossary and cast of characters. But I still kind of love it? Somehow I can follow enough. I dunno.

¡Excelente!

¡Saludos!

In the first book I blamed myself for not being able to keep up with all of the machinations. I was more conscientious about it this read, and while I enjoyed the book, i just don't think it is as good at explaining things as it should be.

Sure it was cool. But too complicated. Too many characters with not enough substance to hold in my head and distinguish them. And too much setup. When the payoff finally started it almost seemed worth it, but not quite. In the end I really didn't care much about anyone or any place. For a little while it seemed like everyone would join together against a common enemy. But really there are no good guys here. I was hoping for more.
