This is an incredibly dark but memorable book. Like, major trigger warnings. Pretty much everyone in the book is damaged in some shape or form. Harley Altmyer is a sensitive and angry guy, which makes sense given his situation. Each kid in the Altmyer family displays how people deal with grief (or don’t) in the different stages of development. The characters are fleshed out in a way that makes them stick in your head after you’re done reading. The descriptions were great, and the plot was engaging and raw. I don’t like the ending, but I guess it’s realistic.
Graphic: Child abuse, Death of parent, Domestic abuse, Gun violence, and Mental illness
Minor: Rape, Incest, and Sexual assault
