A quick and nostalgic read to start the year. I used to love reading these books as a kid, although this one escaped me, despite my fascination with Tudor history.
Although not completely historically accurate, still a very fun time!

An interesting interpretation of Elizabeth's youth. The characterization of the people in her life, as well as herself is intriguing and highly readable.

I was wondering around my books and realized I still had all The Royal Diaries still and decided to reread them. I have always loved Queen Elizabeth and reading “her diary” especially during the time that her father passed away was a treat. You can feel the angst that young Elizabeth must have been feeling and the longing she had to have her fathers affection.
Overall such a good introduction to historical fiction for middle grades and would recommend for classes.

I distinctly remember reading this novel as a child, and I never got through it. However, I am glad to say I officially completed the book, and I am glad I did. It does a great job of expressing how Elizabeth the first could have felt watching her father's love interests constantly die, and her life being constantly exiled.

This is what sparked my interest in history. Ever since, I've had a love of all things involving Henry the Eighth and his legacy, which then expanded into love of history in general. I still love this, I've only upgraded to authors like Philipa Gregory.

I had read this story when I was younger and loved it. However, even though it is still interesting to read I don't have the same fondness. If you don't know the story of Elizabeth and the suitors it is well enough. However, after knowing the history of it I can't help but think of the writing different. It is still an engaging read with a plethora of information at the end.
