I'm torn. This is okay, but very uneven and I really disliked the section that was laid out as Sidneys own notes.

This was a really interesting mystery case.

I liked the way this story flicked between POVs.

This series is a little darker than most in the historic mystery genre, the juxtaposition of hilarious moments with disturbing images (and no, Im not just talking about the murders themselves) can be a little jarring. So don't go into these books thinking they are cozy mysteries because they are definitely not that. What they are is funny and twisty and very enjoyable, with a look into how horrible humans can be to each other and themselves.

I haven't read the first 2 books of the series but it was relatively easy to fill in the missing gaps.
A bit boring at the start and I found the constant insults and making fun of the maid Molly (and women in general) a bit too much.
After a while it got more interesting but I find some parts of the story weren't fully explained.

My least favorite of the series, I think because it was told by Grice and March separately, and the byplay between them when acting in concert was missing. That, and the whole confusing hallucinatory stuff. I'm hoping this series isn't going downhill from here.

Loved books 1 and 2 but I guess it got a bit samey for me, and I never finished this

I read this in one sitting. I have no idea how I feel about this series except that I'm totally sucked in!

I enjoyed this as much as the first in the series, [b:The Mangle Street Murders|18299587|The Mangle Street Murders (The Gower Street Detective, #1)|M.R.C. Kasasian|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1375890933s/18299587.jpg|25785923], and way more than the second, [b:The Curse of the House of Foskett|22488002|The Curse of the House of Foskett (The Gower Street Detective, #2)|M.R.C. Kasasian|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1403207993s/22488002.jpg|39894010], so if you were disappointed with the latter, try this one nonetheless.

The plot is complex - possibly even a bit ridiculous - but unusual and intriguing. The relationship between March and Grice develops in an interesting way. Finally, despite the dire straits they find themselves in, there's plenty of humour.

The Audible version was excellently read by Emma Gregory. I've just bought the 4th in the series and I'm looking forward to it.

Das war wirklich unglaublich spannend! Hat mir noch besser gefallen, als die beiden Vorgänger. Eine wirklich lesenswerte Reihe.
