This is my first time picking up The Hunger Games after growing up watching and re-watching the movies for years and all I can say is “why didn’t I pick this up sooner?!” The book is a lot more intense and detailed than the movie, which is some thing I appreciate and am grateful to be able to read and truly dissect for the first time now that I’m older. I was in between reading my paperback and listening to the audiobook or doing both at the same time to enhance my reading experience. I can’t wait to reread this once I’m done with the trilogy so I can annotate the hell out of my copy because I was itching to if it weren’t for me having an old copy of the book😅 After it being such an amazing read, there’s no doubt in my mind that the next two books will only get better and this is a new book I won’t stop recommending!

Great book, been re-reading it almost every year for the past 10 years. Recommend it for older teens (14+) and young adults.

This is the third time that I read this book. The first two times were when it was released and now, ten(-ish) years later. I felt exactly the same and that was my favorite part about rereading this story.

Katniss is an amazing main character: a very strong female role model, selfless, sensitive... even her naiveness is very relatable. She was forced to grow fast and had a very hard life - losing her father and with a mother destroyed by grief she was the only one who could provide for her sister and from that point on Prim is the only reason why she wants to live.

I love this book because shows that love can be the force that changes lives, even in the most complete chaos and brutality the ones we love can make a difference between giving up and fight a little longer.

the hunger games shows us a dystopian world that is realistic and mature, instead of everything being perfect and visually appealing we see riots, starvation and a whole lot of death. this shows the contrast between the scavengers who live in the districts killing anything they can eat and the capitol who are stylish and spoiled coming across as alien-like.

the world building is fantastic, all the districts are so different and detailed it makes a very diverse world. the characters were also very well written and extremely detailed. i loved gale and peeta’s (bread boy <3) characters as the contrast between them was strong but they had one thing in common.

this book is a portrayal of sacrifice, love, survival and support. i would recommend this book to everyone who loves getting completely immersed in another world.
