I enjoyed the overall picture that was painted and how many efforts to improve low-status communities are short-term solutions that don’t lead to sustainable or generational wealth remaining in the community. As an outsider, I was expecting more information on how I could help, other than donating to the proper causes. This book felt like more of an auto-biography, which is not what I was looking for but was not displeased overall. It can be repetitive at times in defining low-status communities and how most programs have little impact and continue to perpetuate. Don’t expect to have a large toolset for fixing your community after reading this, but do be inspired that change can happen and find lessons along the way.
