2.5 stars. I enjoyed reading this story for the most part, but there were things that didn't make sense and so many questions left unanswered. And the voiceovers were often unneseccary since the action was being shown.

Pretty good for a kids book. I probably would have loved this when I was in 5th/6th grade (I read tons of R. L. Stine at that age)

This may be my favorite art style for a goosebumps comic yet! I felt like the ending was a little silly but over all a fun read and a great visual experience!

It was okay, but it is not a genre I generally care for. I will be interested to see what my 5th graders think of it. I have a bunch low readers that all want to read horror books.

Solid three stars, about what I expected. R. L. Stine was a very important and influential writer for me as a kid, and I had the opportunity to meet him and hear him speak at the ALA conference this year, which is where I received the ARC for this graphic novel. It's creative, nostalgic, and fast-paced, with terrific artwork from Kelly and Nichole Matthews, but as usual with middle-grade books, was over way too quickly.

I wasn't terribly impressed with Stine's recent dip into teen horror with "A Midsummer Night's Scream," and this was a welcome return to form. Something about stories for preteens and younger teenagers just feels fresh and exciting, especially when he does it.

So, why only 3 stars? Eh, there's some predictability to the plot. The fast pace feels rushed at times, as well as the ending. I can't tell whether this is formulaic to the genre, or just for him, but the weird-things-happening, followed by a lot of contrived moments that the characters kind of just stumble into, and then a Twist Ending doesn't thrill me the way it used to.

This is good, and I'm glad to see Stine back in the middle grade sci-fi/horror corner, but I didn't have any trouble putting this away to read other things. Excited to see where this new series goes, and I will keep an eye out for it!

Bummer.

I should have read the reviews before reading this. I watched the Just Beyond series on Disney+ and enjoyed it well enough, and RL Stine was a staple of my childhood, so I was excited to check out the comic series…

Well, this was very underwhelming. The story is boring; the art isn’t that interesting; it’s pretty obvious that graphic novel writing doesn’t come naturally to Stine, as there are way too much exposition bubbles that aren’t needed. It’s a shame.
