I love cozy mysteries with strong female characters. Unfortunately in this second historical mystery in the Molly Murphy series, Molly comes across as flighty rather than strong. I am surprised that the author has won so many awards for this series so I will probably attempt the third to see if it gets better. I do love the setting and did enjoy the tie to real events at the end.

I actually think this series is quite different from what I have expected. I thought it would be like the royal spyness series but it turned out to be more political in nature and not just a simple cozy street mystery. The plot is okay and the new characters all have strong personalities, but I am disappointed there are so few interactions between Molly and Daniel. I will continue this series and give the next book a try.but at the moment, I think I like the Royal Spyness series more.

I like Molly Murphy all right, but I still definitely prefer Bowen's Inspector Evan Evans.
There was a plus in this book in that it's ending took on a real bit of American history--just skimming the surface, but making me want to learn more about this event.

Love Bowen's attention to detail--this is a believable early 20th century New York, and we explore it along with our wide-eyed heroine Molly. Molly does run the risk of becoming a bit too perfect to be true, but otherwise I enjoyed this light mystery. A fun read.
