The final installment of the Hunger Games trilogy falls flat for me. After so much action in the arenas in the first two books, this one is so much in Katniss’ head and so much political strategy that it gets pretty dull after a while.

After the (literal) bombshell at the end of book 2, Katniss and friends move to the previously-unknown District 13 to continue their rebellion against Snow. She becomes the unwitting face of the rebel alliance as the Mockingjay, but she relies on her friends to help her come across as believable. Peeta has been brain hijacked by evil President Snow and wants to kill Katniss, and she is still hell-bent on killing Snow. A trip through the Capitol mimics the arena with deadly traps and intensity, but it can’t hold a candle to the original. Katniss must decide how she wants to end things once and for all because the future of Panem rests in her burn-marked hands.

The longest of all the trilogy, this one drags out the story too much. Peeta’s malfunction, moving to 13, leading a rebellion, Katniss&Gale, going to the Capitol, so much more. Collins is frivolous with her death count in this one, so no one is safe. It’s a mediocre ending to a stellar start of a series.

The world building is definitely still great however this book drained the hell out of me. The first time I read it, I literally skimmed through the whole book even reading through major death scenes without even realizing it. Thats how boring it was. The other two were way more engaging. I understand this book shows the harsh realities of war however it would be better to tell the story not from Katniss's point of view because quite honestly her depressive state seeps through with every page. She also comes across completely erratic and unpredictable, and while I understand her trauma I feel like im constantly babysitting her throughout the book like "stop, dont do that omg no ....Katniss...." "WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT" "Are you actually crazy???". So many characters died and the ending so wholly depressing as well. Even though Katniss tries to be optimistic, I end off the book feeling dead inside because she is. And what the hell Gale is all I have to say. Dickwad. Idiot. Not even worthy of being in a love triangle.
Spoiler killing her sister than leaving from the guilt. YOU WERE STILL HER BEST FRIEND IDIOT. She needed you but I guess your guilt was more important than making amends. I know she would never forget but she would never push you out of her life.
