I found this one reaaaaally hard to get through and just skimmed the second half; it was too pun-based and referential to be a good read for me ;(

This probably has some of Pratchett's most ingenious writing, but the middle third drags a bit and the absolute final conclusion is quite incoherent.

After this book got off to a bit of a slow start, it really sucked me in and I found myself chuckling and enjoying it! Even eager to read on and find out what was going on and where it was going. Perhaps it won't be so painful to read my way though the rest of the Discworld...

I was going to rate this 2, the same as I gave Sourcery, but by the end I was even less interested than I was in that. There is absolutely nothing compelling about this book. The jokes are thin, the main characters are as two dimensional as the films they appear in, Gaspode the Wonder Dog is just bloody irritating, and the phrase "good boy Laddie!" will scourge the insides of my eyelids until I'm dead. I was skimming by halfway and skipping whole paragraphs by the end of this tepid, uninspired, un-Discworldian mess. I hear there's a continuation of the "industrial revolution" set, and I must say, after this I'm not at all looking forward to it.

It's Hollywood but not as we know it! I found this an amusing read with lots of film references, although slightly twisted. We had Laddie the dog, the Odium, Holy Wood Hills , to name just a few. Then some of the famous sayings, What's up duck, Diamonds are a girls best friend and Frankly I don't give a damn , the list goes on, and I'm sure I'd spot more if I was to read this again. It was nice that character of CMOT Dibbler had a bigger roll in this book and I loved Gaspode the dog along with the other talking animals despite the fact they had a very small part. Another enjoyable read.
