my feeling is that its not the type of story i enjoy but i'll make it through for kim dokja

idk i thought it was good as a sort of celebration of what stories can do for people and the relationship between readers and stories and writers, and i think there were a lot of fun things that were accomplished by making stories the basis of a power system when it came to the scenarios and the combat etc. the characters were very good with dokja probably being the strongest part of the whole novel and i did think the exploration of different popular webnovel genres + tropes helped a lot with keeping it interesting, especially with how long it is

its the kind of thing where you probably get a lot more out of it if you already enjoy those tropes already, although i dont think its impossible to enjoy otherwise. fight scenes make up a lot of this book which i struggled to get through just because i personally dont even process watching those let alone reading them, but i think the character moments that arise as a result are worth it in the end

im a bit iffy on the ending but i think i just wanted to see
dokja up and about myself rather than have to imagine it. but ig thats just my role as the reader 😔

end of ep99 really solidified dokja as the yoo joonghyuk to my kim dokja. like oh haha hes just that type of character *eye twitches*

the fact that i cannot read this in its original korean or a translation that does it justice (yet) is a crime against humanity. HOWEVER. i cried nonetheless.

love is stored in the reader who laughs and cries and breathes in a world they know cannot have.

love is stored in the author who cannot help but give life and death and misery and hope to its characters in the attempt to reach someone else.

love is stored in the protagonist who bleeds and stumbles and lives and lives and lives.

i love you
kim dokja's company. and i will keep loving you forever and always, so you can live your epilogue happily.

well. i've finally completed this (except the extras, sorry, i need a break) it might take me a while to write a proper review for this. before I do so, some points:
  • the beginning few arcs and the absolute final run of 10 chapters were the best out of all of them, even if the beginning chapters were written less interestingly than the rest of them
  • the characters are absolutely the best part of this webnovel, hands down. impeccable direction and execution of character arcs, rounded each one so so well. yes my favourite is still yoo joonghyuk i have a weakness for yaoi tops morally-grey antiheroes
  • is joongdok real? is this actually BL? the author says no, but BL is always in the eye of the beholder. it's not impossible to see joongdok here, exemplified by the vast majority of the fandom agreeing that there's a little something going on between our two protagonists... yeah they're a little fruity to me
  • so so pleased to say all the women are written incredibly well !! justice is delivered
  • i did nearly cry at the end yeah... yeah...
I'll probably end up writing an extended essay on this behemoth. there's a lot to say.
