Rose is a ball of sunshine. She is independent, hardworking, and incredibly driven. She has never had anyone to rely on and has always had to work for everything she has. Jack is grumpy and closed off. Due to his guilt, he tries to avoid developing feelings for Rose, but
I was actually able to predict the twist pretty early on.
I get that Rose loves him and what he did helped her in the long run, but it's also very creepy. Basically stalking was the foundation of their relationship. Which according to her friend, was actually sweet and endearing? Then after like a week, she just forgives him! He never apologizes and there is hardly any grovelling. He barley fights for her, he just stands outside her cafe for a few nights and then shows up with divorce papers. Yes he changes thought their relationship, but that doesn't absolve his behaviour at the start of their relationship!
Tropes: grumpy/sunshine, marriage of convenience, slow burn, he falls first
Graphic: Bullying, Sexual content, Toxic relationship, Grief, Medical trauma, Gaslighting, and Abandonment
Minor: Death

There were times when I thought I would rate this atleast 4.5 ⭐. The beginning was a bit slow but Rose & Jack were just perfect for the fake-dating trope, I really fell in love with them and their story.
But a plot twist at the end really changed my rating. Of course, every romance has its drama but this one just didn't feel romantic at all, much more stalker-y. There were also some consent issues during the sex scenes which were probably meant to seem sexy but just made it feel too dub-con for me.
Really wish I could've rated this higher!

“‘I don’t have a home to go back to anymore Rose.’ I stopped, but didn’t look at him. ‘You’re my home,’ he finished.’
“She was the only one for me; it was as simple as that. I could be without Rose. I could spend a lifetime without ever talking to her again and I would live - miserably, but I would live, as long as I knew she was happier. Life always moved on whether you chose to move along with it or stay put and let it happen all around you, but I didn’t want to do it without her.”
