Good, but not without flaws. I liked learning about these forgotten women of history and the vital role that they played during World War II; in that respect, the book reminded me of [b:Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race|27161178|Hidden Figures The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race|Margot Lee Shetterly|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1460909647l/27161178._SX50_.jpg|45855800]. I would have preferred for Mundy to have focused on a handful of women from the group to highlight; as presented, there is an overwhelming amount of ladies to keep straight along with lots of general information relayed about the war. I also feel that cryptanalysis, which is given a basic overview, could have been explored in further detail. Although it could have been stronger overall, I'm glad that I read this.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this title.

Such a great book--the perfect balance of small anecdote and real history. Certainly I loved all the references to Bryn Mawr, my alma mater. Also my dad worked at NSA for his whole career--he showed me a photo of him, my mom, and me as a baby with Ann Caracristi!

I’m of the unpopular opinion that this was just okay. There’s a lot of information here that doesn’t enhance the story. The story is also much more of a history of code breaking in WWII, mainly in DC, with a bend toward women (instead of men like most history books). I almost bailed a few times but stuck with it and the last few chapters are better than the first.

I really wanted to like this book. I love the subject matter- so I’m not sure if my feelings towards this book are because this audiobook narrator was not my favorite or if this author tried to do too much. Grateful to know of these amazing womens’ brains that helped get us through and out of WWII.
