I was so drawn to this book, and reading other reviews now that I’ve finished reading It’s so interesting to me how people connect with different books. I was shocked to read that people had a hard time connecting to these characters or that they felt no emotion from this book. Maybe it’s personal, but I felt so seen, held, and at the same time torn open by this book. I was so encapsulated in this book and relating to the narrator that I never noticed (until reading a review) that we never learn the girls name. And to me that shows how she centered Jude in her life, forgoing her education, friends, dreams of motherhood, even her name. So painfully relatable. At the lengths to which we will try to hang on to love no matter how unhealthy. This book was not only a book about a summer romance, it was about motherhood and the generations of heartbreak. This book was beautiful and has become my favorite book of 2023.

Interesting story unlike what I’ve read thus far, and certainly had me hooked in some areas. Lucas was a bit more poetic and descriptive than I’m used to, and found in some areas I was losing her point. Like in many literary fiction books I’ve found, I wanted about 15% more plot action. Overall I found myself (scarily) relating to the narrator. Which I just realized does not have a name! Overall good read.

Excruciatingly slow, tons of flowery language and I feel like she tried to convey this great love/coming of age/self realization story but frankly my love your life is not that fascinating to be put into a book. Waste of time!
