This is a nice collection of quotes and stories from Mister Rogers. I liked the way this book was organized. Everything flowed together well.

This 75 minute recording has music by Mr. Rogers, a nice foreward by Mrs. Rogers, some recordings of Mr. Rogers talking at different events or for PSAs, and then a bunch of thought provoking tidbits that Mr. Rogers wrote that are read by John Lithgow, Lily Tomlin, Tyne Daly, and Andre Watts. The audio presentation is enjoyable because you get to hear these people's voices. However, this book is suited to more reflection than linear listening, and I frequently wished I had a pause button on the CD player in my car. Several times I turned off the player or rewound to listen to a pearl of wisdom. I'm going to try to get the printed book to give me more time to think about what Mr. Rogers is telling us.

This was a very nice book to listen to, and very quick at just over an hour. I've always found Mr. Rogers and his wisdom to be calming and heartwarming. I listened to the audiobook, which has several celebrity narrators reading his quotes, along with a few recordings of his own voice. The introduction by his widow was well done, too.

And as always, tears were shed. His calm and positive words are always what I need to hear.

I wish there was a Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood show for adults.

I first saw this book a couple of years ago during a random Barnes and Noble trip with my husband and daughter. As soon as I spotted it laying on one of those round tables right next to the entrance, I knew I had to have it. I watched Mister Rogers' Neighborhood often growing up. I can't say that I was a huge fan of it back then (though I did enjoy it) but it was on constant rotation at my grandparents' house. I'm thankful that they made me watch it back then because it opened up a world of kindness, creativity, and love for me. Something I was in desperate need of at a young age.

Though I had a rough upbringining, I like to think that I grew up to be a kind, intelligent adult that truly cares about other people and their circumstances. Sometimes too much as I find myself empathic and feeling too much of the emotions around me. As an adult I do have issues with things like anxiety and depression but it's because of things like this that Mister Rogers means so much to me. It's refreshing to have a show, and a person, that is truly beautiful and made a difference in every life that he touched. As a parent now, it makes me happy to know that I can introduce my children to such a true human being (and thankfully even more now with Daniel Tiger!) and show them a good example of kindness and how much it really means to people and their lives.

One of my favorite takeaways from Mister Rogers, and this book, is: "I like you just the way you are". I even teared up while reading through some of these pages because it's just a powerful message to children, to anyone, that they are liked, loved, and accepted exactly for who they are. It's definitely a message I needed as a child and I love that his words continue to make a mark on the world.

The World According to Mister Rogers: Important Things to Remember is a small quote collection created posthumously from the letters, speeches, and personal conversations of Fred Rogers (aka. Mr. Rogers from PBS' Mr. Roger's Neighborhood). Rogers was an incredible mind, and focused his work within his religious and political philosophy. If you grew up with Mr. Rogers getting ready for school every morning, this book is right on queue for your adulthood. With incredible Instagram ready quotes, it seems Mr. Rogers was an educational machine, filling us all up with the kind loving reminders that kindness and caring really do make for a better world. As a quote collection this is well suited for a coffee table gift, or a beside devotional to the church of be kind and eat your vegetables. A lovely reminder of my childhood, and the perfect thing to snap picutures of and send loving support to friends.

I’ve been reading this small book very slowly, here and there. After the recent weekend of gun violence and death, I read this quote:
“It’s very dramatic when two people come together to work something out. It’s easy to take a gun and annihilate your opposition, but what is really exciting to me is to see people with differing views come together and finally respect each other.”
