Damn, Santa Montefiore is kind of explicit! Alba had issues man! Though she does redeem herself so it's okay.

Considering that I actively disliked most of the characters in this book, it kept me gripped till the very end.

Didn't enjoy this book as other (later) ones by this author, despite the WWII dual storyline.
Alba wasn't a particularly likeable character and felt rather flat, and her mother was somewhat of a caricature. For all that, I did want to read how it turned out and there were a couple of surprises along the way.
Not the best introduction to Montefiore's work, that's for sure
