I just read this entire book, front to back, in one sitting. It was absolutely phenomenal, with touching moments and feelings and emotions. It was action packed, which made it super interesting, and the characters were all so lovable in their own ways. This book had me crying at times, which is always a sign of good writing. I thought that everything was so well written and executed throughout the novel, from the perspectives to the plotline to the details. The darker themes were portrayed in realistic, understandable ways and not easily brushed off. Each character has their own personal struggles, and these are well-described and major parts of the novel. The characters had all been through stuff in their past that explained their actions, which was great as each backstory fit their personalities and insecurities. I like how all of the characters were held accountable for their actions, and that Briar was headstrong and not afraid to stand up for herself. It was super interesting to watch everything unfold, and I obviously couldn’t put it down. I loved it, even if it is not a traditional romance novel.

Overall, I thought this was pretty well done. Things I often notice is inconsistent tones in romance books. You can’t have the most fluffiest romcom with a sudden murder in the last 50 pages. But this was very consistent. That tense, uncomfortable feeling was there from beginning to end. I feel like the MMCs didn’t get even attention, one for sure got the most interest from the author.
Matt treated Briar like a total child. I understand trauma is a bitch but that doesn’t give him the right to be such an asshole to her throughout the book. I’m happy that she was able to throw all the shit he did back in his face. Kenta seemed to be the only one really looking out for her. Glen was fine, but Matt was the worst. I would’ve given this a much higher score if he wasn’t so…dickish
Also I would like to add that there’s a lot of diet culture/restrictive eating talk and it’s not totally addressed.
