Whoa! The pacing, storyline, and writing had me absolutely consuming this book on my day off. I did get caught by a few of the plot twists, and i enjoyed them. They were great, but I do think that I probably would've predicted a few more them if I hadn't zoomed through it in basically one setting. Which is to say mildly predictable but also thoroughly enjoyable. 9/10 would read again.

Kiva has spent 10 years in a prison hoping her family will come rescue her. One day the Rebel Queen is captured and sent to the prison.Kiva has to keep her alive long enough to be rescued. Story reads well and the ending had me shook. I will be reading the next book in the trilogy.

Okay the twist at the end definitely got me…but honestly wasn’t a huge fan of Kiva. Little Tipp has my dang heart

Great start to a series! The ending left me wanting to start the next one right away.
Some things were predictable, but I was not expecting some things that happened at the end.

I ate this up.
The Prison Healer follows the story of Kiva Meridan, a young woman skilled at healing who is assigned to work as, well, the prison healer. She’s grouchy, moody and resilient. My favourite.
When the Rebel Queen is captured and Kiva is tasked with keeping her alive, she truly is out of her element (literally

This would have been a 3 star if not for that INSANE ending that recontextualized the whole book. I get the hype now!!

3.25 stars. I’ve read and heard so many great reviews for this series. So I was a bit disappointed with how lackluster this first book was.

What I liked:
- Side Characters: fairly well developed and lovable. Definitely some found family vibes.
- Lots of interesting breadcrumbs planted for the rest of the series.
- Setting and conflicts were very mature and complex.
- Great twist at the end. Definitely makes me want to continue the series to see what happens.

What I didn’t like:
- Kiva: her inner thoughts and worries would ramble on and on, so much so I found her quite annoying as the book went on. Her personality was quite contradictory and at times made no sense to me.
- The setting was a bit claustrophobic and definitely limited the world-building that this book could’ve done.
- The plot was slow, even with a trial element and other (what should’ve been fascinating) plot lines.

Loved the pace and I was immediately interested in her POV as well as everyone she met.
