“If your hero is a firefighter, your heroine better be an arsonist.” — Linda Howard

This book has an excellent, full conflict, premise! This is a historical romance so of course our heroine, Georgie, needs to get married but doesn’t want a husband. She goes to Newgate with a plan to be widowed days after her marriage to a criminal but… ends up marrying a Bow Street Runner working undercover! A few days later she recognized him at a ton gathering and… isn’t this so much fun?

Kate Bateman writes a story full of adventure. I do think her characters and plotting are very similar: which can be great if you want to know what you are getting as a product but I wouldn’t recommend her for binging. I also wish she had kept the high conflict premise because I love thinking “how will the author untangle this mess?” (Quite like Lorraine Heath who is a master at putting her characters in impossible situations).

It felt so good to be back in this genre, I've missed reading historical romances so much, it's been way too long.

This is my first book from author Kate Bateman and it definitely won't be my last.

Such a beautifully written story about two characters finding love, fun and adventure. I was hooked from start to finish and through the whole story I felt like I'd gone back to the 18 hundreds. Love. Love. Loved!

If you love this genre than I highly recommend one-clicking this book.

I liked it. It was an easy read. Likeable characters. Definitely more modern heroine and hero for a historical. The hero had a little alphaness in him but not enough to my liking. The ending was just a little too easy and happy for my taste. Too cheesy but alas still a sweet read.

I really enjoyed my first bodice ripper. As far as bodice rippers I don't actually know how it holds up. Is it stereotypical or tropey? No idea. But I greatly enjoyed it. It was funny, hot, and the couple had a lot of UST. It also had a fun plot about foiling a plan to free Napoleon.

While on a mission for Bow Street, Benedict is somewhat forced to marry heiress, Georgiana Caversteed. Georgie just wants a husband in name only to save her from her lecherous cousin, Josiah. When Benedict and Georgie see each other across a crowded ballroom, the gameplan is demolished.

I was so excited to dig into another Kate Bateman novel! She did not disappoint me with the sweeping romance between Ben and Georgie. I love how she flipped the script with a wealthy woman and a penniless, yet valiant young man.

Of course, there is the dastardly villain to contend with on the pair’s road to wedded bliss. Cousin Josiah is about as disgusting as any money-grabber could be. He never fathomed that Georgie would do something so devious as to sneak out and marry another. His plan to hold all of the Caversteed fortunes is halted, but not forgotten.

As Georgie and Ben get to know one another, the desire for a true marriage becomes almost overwhelming. With a lovestruck younger sister, a hellish cousin, and a rake of a husband, Georgie has her hands full all while trying to run a shipping empire. While Ben initially thinks the best way to proceed is divorce, the determined and kind Georgie turns his entire belief system upside down.

While Bateman wove her love story, she kept me guessing at every turn. I hope she has even more love and secrets to share as the series continues.

I received This Earl of Mine for free. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
