Reviews with content warning for Panic attacks/disorders - Mile High

I’ve seen many people speak very highly of this book. I thought I'd try it because I wanted a quick and easy read. To start with the good, I found this book funny in some parts and heartfelt in others. I liked the concept of the “forbidden trope” with no fraternization with clients. I thought it made the storyline intriguing. I liked Zander's sweet side and that we could see his fears and vulnerabilities. I found Stevie funny at times and relatable at points.

Now, I do have some reservations about this book. First and foremost, I found that writing style could use some revision. How the characters were described made me question whether I wanted to continue reading. Let's be honest; how many times did I have to read that Zander is a 6’5 defensive hockey player who wears chains? I also understand that his niece is three. These are just some descriptions to make examples of. There are many ways to describe someone's stature, appearance, and age. Once someone is specifically described, re-using the same descriptors is comes off as unnecessary. Recycling descriptions are one of my book pet peeves 😫. Secondly, I understand that Zander’s “persona” was a big part of the plot and that his agent was the middleman. I kept thinking that Zander was not a rookie, and if he had suspicions about his agent, it couldn't be impossible for him to reach out on his own. Especially given how skilled the book portrays him to be. I kept getting frustrated with how easily this problem could have been solved.

WARNING! This is my opinion! I found Stevie's mother borderline… prejudiced. It just didn’t sit right with me some of the excuses that Stevie had for her mom. She is a white southern woman who has a half-black daughter and… “she’s not used to curves” or “But I don’t know what she expected. Her husband, the other half of my DNA, looks nothing like the ginger hair, freckled, thin-framed side of my mom’s family.” Stevies white side of the family. Or “I want to be proud that I’m half of a remarkable man, but it’s hard to be proud of anything when my own mother is disappointed in everything I do.” This just made me uncomfortable and the book didn't address this at all! Only that her mom is toxic but in the harsh meddling mother type of way. I thought that Stevie and her mother's issue had a racial aspect. I could go down a rabbit hole with this one but I digressed 🤷🏾‍♀️.

Overall I did enjoy this book but I’m unsure if I’m going to read the rest of the series, I don’t think it’s for me.

This book was so good. Now, it is my least favorite out of the series (I mean Ryan Shay and Kai Rhodes) but is it so freaking good. Ok first off, Stevie Shay is just perfection. I am here for the curvy, plus size representation. She is just an absolute queen and I can't be told otherwise. I would have liked a bit more conflict from her side of the story but that didn't stop me from loving her. Now, Zee *daddy* Zanders. I love him. Such a good character, has good banter, loves his nieces soooo much (melted my heart every single time he talked about them), has such a dirty mouth (and delivers). I think that he went through a lot throughout the book and his development was clear. He made some mistakes that annoyed me but not enough for me to dislike him. Stevie and Zee's relationship is beautiful. He uplifts her so well and she is able to be there for him when he needs to calm down, she reassures him and lowers his anxiety. I love their relationship. I would definitely read this book again with no problems.

Gotta start this off by saying I am here for Stevie. A curvy, plus sized POC fmc who is working on her self love. *chefs kiss* I love this girl.

Now, Zee “daddy” Zanders has officially been added to my list of book boyfriends. Dominant, brutally honest, gives good banter, melts for his niece, talks dirty and backs it up, kinky, self aware and in therapy, dog dad…. If it wasn’t for that end game stumble of his this book might have been five stars.

Alas, Miles High falls victim to leaning on the miscommunication trope for its end game issues. But Liz put in all the ground work to carry the trope off with minimal head banning and screaming at the mc’s.

I couldn’t stay mad, and the end game character growth really made up for putting me through that. I have a strong feeling I will be devouring the rest of this series, because I am so here for the side characters and Ryan and Indy deserve all the love.

Also the spice in this book had me blushing, and laughing, and squirming all throughout. Theres such a good balance between plot and smut, and I am here for the praise kink and light choking. These two are so hot together! Ahhh!!!!

For anyone unsure about investing the time into a romance this long, just know it’s worth it. The book fleshes out so many of its characters and that leads to a loveable cast of side characters and it doesn’t rush the romance. Theres no instalove here (except mine for Stevie, Rosie, Xanders, Indy and Ryan) also hurray for good book dads.
