If doesn't win some Kid's lit award next year, I'll be very surprised.

I’m a little biased as I love everything Woodson does, but this book is so full of relatable pure summer joy. I love going to school but there is a thrill at that last bell of the school year that Woodson describes perfectly. Yes, it has a 70’s and 80’s style but I can’t help but smile at all of Espinosa’s drawings and relish in the beautiful colors and excitement of every child at the freedom of summer break.

Every teacher is going to want to read this on the last day of school! I love how it captures the wonder of childhood and beauty of Brooklyn.

A tribute to the joys of summer when kids played in the street and always knew to come home when the streetlights came on with not an electronic device in sight.

The perfect pairing of words and pictures… I can *feel* the magical summer vibes through the pages of this book.

This was delightful. But who is it for? The 1970s energy from the typography to the art style is real. And the nostalgia is intense--like I wasn't even alive in the 1970s and I felt that. But again I keep coming back to who this is for because, in a lot of ways, the kind of childhood being described here is gone forever.
