I enjoyed the concept of this book, which was fresh and set apart from most standard thrillers, but the writing and execution fell a bit short for me. The authors' spin on women friends, killers, and amateur sleuths was refreshing, and the depiction started to address the complexities of women and how they can be both victims and victimizers. However, I didn't find the prose nuanced or compelling enough to draw me in to the story or characters' emotions. It may also just be a personal preference, but while I sometimes found the factoids beginning every chapter to be interesting, the practice felt gimicky, and also a "see, this is what a women who might be on the spectrum might be like!"

I love this author duo. I blew through this book so quickly, I feel like I might need to read it again.

So this book isn't my favourite by these two authors, but I didn't hate it like I did with their first book.

You Are Not Alone follows Shay, a young woman living in New York. At the beginning of the book, she's feeling a bit low: she's struggling to find a job, she's living with her friend Sean (who she's secretly in love with) and his girlfriend Jody and feeling a bit claustrophobic and she doesn't have much of a social life.

While out one Sunday morning, Shay sees a woman jump out in front of a train and kill herself. Understandably, she is shook up by this and when she starts to see similarities in the dead woman's life to her own, she becomes intrigued by her and wants to learn more about her.

So when Shay meets two mysterious sisters, Cassandra and Jane Moore, she becomes enamoured with them. She wants to become friends with them and finds herself whirled up into their world. But are the sisters all they seem? And what is the truth behind Amanda's suicide?

For the most part of this book, our main character Shay is the most naive person in the world. She goes along with so much stuff in this book without questioning it and I spent a lot of time mentally screaming at her. But I didn't exactly hate her. I just felt sorry for her. She was obviously just a lonely and vulnerable character.

While I did enjoy the plot twists toward the end of the book, I thought that the main plot was way too convulted. It felt like it took a long way to get to the end and figure what's going on. There were too many characters and too much time spent establishing how they know each other and what their roles were.

But overall, a solid thriller.
