After devouring the first book in this series, I am disappointed to say that I barely enjoyed this installment. The only enjoyable part of this book was the twist at the end and at that, it didn't make up for the rest of the book. The build-up felt extremely slow for the sudden twist at the end, there was a lot of filler and knowledge that was provided that didn't feel cohesive to the plot or the progression of the plot. This book just felt like a filler book in the series to take up space until the ending. I don't know if I will be continuing with this series if the third book is anything like this one.

I didn't like this one as much as the first book. The addiction started fading lmao. The paranoia and the shit Jude does is written very well. The ending was meh tbh it wasn't the direction i saw the book going in and i dont feel excited to find out anymore. I am kind of confused about how they made other people like Jamie to be 'special' like Mara and Noah. It kind of feels like they're broadening the storyline too much by including all the characters almost into the "special abilities" category out of the blue. I truly don't know how to review it honestly. The writing is pretty consistently good, although this was more lengthy than it needed to be. It doesn't make me want to jump to the sequel but it's an okay read.

okay, i somewhat struggled and somewhat enjoyed it so much? i love the dark topics addressed and that it is pretty unique for a ya of its time. i enjoy all the psychological talk and aspects nad how mara develops and how noah supports her. some of it was a little cliché but honestly, i did not see much of the twists come myself? maybe because i couldn't invest a large chunk of time at once to reading it. overall, i did enjoy this but i didn't think it was as good as the first book for me. i'm a little nervous to go into the finale, though.
