Clown in a Cornfield is a roller-coaster of a ride. If you love teen slasher movies, this is the book for you. Personally I love stuff like this, so I knew it was gonna be a great read but I wasn't expecting it to be this good.

We follow Quinn, a teenage girl who has moved from Philadelphia to a small country town called Kettle Springs following the death of her mother. Her father has taken the job of local doctor after the previous one retires and Quinn is less than excited to move to the town.

She realises soon that there is a discourse between the town adults and teenagers. The adults are determined to 'Make Kettle Springs Great Again' whereas the teens just want to have fun and get the adults off their backs.

Kettle Springs was previously home to a famous Corn Syrup factory with a creepy clown mascot called Friendo but after the accidental death of his daughter, owner Arthur Hill has closed the factory and pretty much abandoned the town. His son Cole is seen as the local troublemaker and he and his friends quickly befriend Quinn.

A couple of nights after her arrival, Quinn is invited to a party with Cole and his friends, and it seems to be going well. That is until a maniac dressed as Friendo shows up and starts killing the teenagers..

As I've said, this book was perfect for me. It had a slasher movie premise, with likeable and unlikeable characters and lots and lots of gory deaths. I was not expecting this book to be so gory and graphic. But I loved every page of it.

I need to read more from Adam Cesare's backlog after this because I'm hooked on his writing and storytelling.

It was an enjoyable and creepy book that had a few gory details the second part dragged on a bit too much but the writing was fluid and easy to read.

Enjoyable and breezy. I enjoyed the characters a lot, and the meandering action of the climax was immersive and ultimately rewarding. Would recommend to angsty teens and adults who want a brief vacation into that mindset.
