I hesitated to pick this one up, and it took me a minute to return to the Rine Kent universe. Honestly, I suck at reading only one author back to back without getting a little burnt out. But what really pushed me out was that I didn't love the previous duet I had read, and it took forever to read that duology. It was Johnathon's book. I am trying to decide if I like Kent's standalone reads/interconnected standalones more than duologies because so far, I always leave them wanting more or feeling like they are just dragging out and wishing it was just one book. But I'm happy this is the duology I returned to. It was so good. These characters were amazing. I loved seeing Reina! I have yet to read many books with the amnesia trope, but I loved seeing this play out. She was determined to discover her past but also wanted to improve. It was a chaotic good time, and I can't wait to see Rai's book.

I wasn’t a fan of this story (unfortunately). I’m aware of the fact that we’re supposed to be in the dark with this one — our MC has lost her memories & therefore we’re trying to piece things together as she does — but I wish there was more time spent on Reina & Asher’s relationship before it started to develop? I understand that he saved her that one night, but it seemed as though Reina went from mistrusting him to lusting after him overnight (which confused me)?

The synopsis of this book sounds a lot more exciting that it really is. Also the Part of the mystery revolves around the mafia, which isn’t mentioned in the synopsis. This wasn’t the sexy, dark romance I hoped for; it’s just a girl hearing about how terrible she used to be and trying to convince everyone (mostly the love interest) she is different now because she doesn’t remember anything.
The sex scenes at the end of the book weren’t that hot to me, not even lukewarm. I didn’t really feel sexual tension between Asher and Reina because he literally hated her and then suddenly he’s flirting one minute and then telling her she’s a monster the next, so very mixed signals. Also didn’t like the racism towards the Asian character.
The ending is a cliffhanger, and overall I don’t care enough to find out the answers. This book has Pretty Little Liar vibes but less suspenseful and thought out.
