This is the second Ghote book I've read, but although I tried hard it's not my cup of tea. I just don't find Ghote very likable. A pity, for I was looking forward to a nice long series.

Frank Masters, an American millionaire and philanthropist has been killed by arsenical poisoning at his Masters Foundation. Inspector Ghote is put in charge of the investigation.
Unfortunately the story really didn't engage my attention. The characters nor the story were that interesting
A NetGalley Book

First published in 1966, this second novel featuring Inspector Ganesh Ghote, policeman, detective in Bombay is an interesting look at philanthropy and how some people with good intentions do more harm than good. And how fickle are the very rich people. Not much has changed since then so the setting is still valid. The plot : one very rich American do-gooder is found dead, poisoned by arsenic in his big house in Bombay where children from the street find shelter, food and medical attention. Add a notorious mafia type bad guy roaming around that the police would just love to get their hands on and you have the making of a sticky investigation. It's well paced, has some very interesting insights into Ghote's head and the bad guy is interesting.

This is the second book I read in this series and I liked it as it's an engrossing and entertaining story.
The cast of characters, the vivid background and a well crafted plot are elements that made me liked it.
It's a good read, recommended.
Many thanks to Severn House and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
