I would give this 4.5 *s for the story and 4 *s for the artwork. This book brings together the Crane and van Tassel descendants to defeat a villain who has been hunting the van Tassel family for generations. OH - and the pumpkin head TALKS! I got some genuine laughs at times and I will definitely read this again next fall!

✨ Review ✨ Hollow by Shannon Watters and Branden Boyer-White; Berenice Nelle (artist)

This YA graphic novel takes us to modern day Sleepy Hollow where descendants of the original Sleepy Hollow story come back to solve a mystery facing the town. Vicky Van Tassel, Isabel "Izzy" Crane, and town prankster Croc Byun set off to try to save Vicky from whatever is out to get her. Complete with a headless horseman talking pumpkin ghost (best referred to as "they" since they are more than a single entity).

This is the perfect graphic novel for spooky season and it brings in great LGBTQ+ representation. While targeted for YA, I think this could even be given to middle grades students with some parental supervision (there's one scene where two of the characters are sleeping in bed together in their underwear, but not too suggestive I don't think

This is a fun autumnal graphic novel that is set in the town of Sleepy Hollow. “Izzy” Crane is new to town and she quickly realizes that the town is genuinely obsessed with the legend of the Headless Horseman. Izzy is pulled into the orbit of Vicky and Croc and they encounter the Horseman and uncover a curse set on destroying Vicky’s family line. Time is ticking for the trio. Can they solve the mystery of the legendary Horseman of Sleepy Hollow before it’s too late?

I absolutely loved the graphics, the coloring, and the amount of detail put into this story. I loved the LGBT and disability representation featured. It had a lot of good things going for it, but I will say the mystery was kind of lame and the villain was very cartoonish if that makes sense. Despite that I still enjoyed my time reading it and definitely recommend it.
