"That was the problem with growing old, he thought. Plenty of spare time to press the rewind button on your past, to relive your follies and wallow in your shame."

What an amazing novella! After I'd wrapped my head around each of the characters' names, I was utterly enthralled by how the connections between them evolved into experiences of desire, love, loss and regret.

Framed by a present tense tour of Waratah, the Blue Mountains home of artists Neil Baxter and Isabella Shaw, the story of their unconventional relationship and how this impacted their family, friends and lovers is successfully narrated through multiple character perspectives describing events that unfold from the sixties to the present day.

Authentic and vivid descriptions of the Blue Mountains landscape as well as the close attention to detail when capturing the beauty of art in written form made me wish to see and experience the carefully constructed world of the novella.

A highly recommended read!
