“I don’t love you,” she whispered, the lie bitter on her tongue. “I refuse to love you.”
“I know,” he said and held her to him, stroking her hair. “I don’t love you either.”

damn that last 5% has me stunned.
i had some suspicions, but not quite to the extent of betrayal that it was.

“You’re in bed with your lover,” he mumbled into his glass. “And I’m far away, scheming how best to ruin him.”

claire legrand takes us deeper into the lore of the fallen angels, the saints, and how the future came to be in a stunning story about power and love. she mentions in her acknowledgment that she spent 14 years writing the first book and was scared for the second. i don't blame her, and the fact that she wrote it so well following up the first with so much less time is a testament to her writing.

i'm racing straight to book 3, i can't wait to see the epic conclusion of this story.

4.75 STARS

I have to say, I am very impressed with Claire Legrand. It is rare for the second book in a trilogy to be better than the first, and this book accomplished this feat.

The only reason I could not give this book a true 5 star rating was because I had some minor issues with the characters that just annoyed me. I felt that many of the romantic scenes were used for audience appeal rather than character growth and/or plot development. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy romance, but things got really redundant after awhile.

However, the writing was excellent, the world was rich and captivating, the characters gained more depth, and the plot was EXCITING! The ending is making me itch for the final installment. The revelations had my jaw drop MULTIPLE times and left me with so many questions. I NEED to know what happens next!

The ending got me!! I didn’t really get in to the book until the second half. I’m not really sure if I like Elaina or Rielle

What. The. Actual. Freak

Spoiler are you kidding me with that ending? Simon was actually under Simon’s instructions the whole time? (Not really but kind of??) ugh I was hoping for it to end on a better more successful note.
