It was the good solid storytelling one would expect of the author of Harry Potter. It did not, I’m afraid, have the charm of most of her other tales. Good, yes. Great, no.

As a children’s book, I just couldn’t get behind this. The violence is one thing but on top of that there were drawings of violent acts from young children who submitted them for a competition. Horses being steered until bleeding, stray dogs being hit by rocks, hundreds of innocent people being gagged and murdered while their children are sent to an abusive orphanage that starves and beats them….I really don’t know what Rowling was thinking. Hope and the “happy ending” came in the last ten percent of the book and yet its still on top of HUNDREDS of graves of innocent people.

I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump the past couple of weeks and this has certainly been the pick-me-up I needed.
Everything from knowing that this was her kids’ bedtime story, to the children’s artwork every chapter, to the whimsical narrative itself: this book brings a warmness to my heart.
Thank you for another masterpiece, JK Rowling!

Awesome
Another great story. I liked this one a lot. It truly seems to really tell a story about how people should be kinder and how people can change.
How you treat people is how they end up treating others without realizing it.
Moral of this story is be kind and listen before judging and gossiping about things you haven't a clue about.
Hear someone else's side before believing things.

Loved it. Everything J.K. writes is awesome, thank you for this story. And the fact that it has several pictures from children (The Ickabog artwork competition) make it even more special ❤️. We needed something new and beautiful to finish this awkward 2020 and this book is definitely a good one for that.

I don't agree with all of J.K. Rowling's views, but that could be said for every author of every book I've ever read. The kids and I enjoyed reading The Ickabog during the stay at home orders of 2020. I think it's quite nice that the book was released free of charge when we needed a diversion most of all.
