A real top class thriller set in The Pacific Norhwest.
Can’t wait for the next Winslow & Burke Thriller to be released.

“But this was Deception Cove in a nutshell, right here. Big dreams dashed, and people dying young.”

All in all, a knockout first book and entry into what looks to be a solid series. Not only are the characters genuine and complex, but the action never beers into cinematic ludicrousness. This feels like it’s happening now, happening in places all over the country. While the ending may not quite match the novel’s, there were a lot of places where I felt I’d heard or read a story like this in the news ending tragically.

If the rest of the books can match the caliber of this one, you can count me as a lifelong fan.

Read this book now.

Outstanding. Owen's a heck of a writer, and this is his best book yet. Beautifully written.

I enjoyed aspects of this book. The dog was the best part, for me. The characters felt a little one dimensional, the story unrealistic. But I kept reading and I might read a second installment in the series.

It was a nice change to read a book with characters with a different background. Some of the violence toward the end got a little repetitive and more unrealistic than the rest of the book, and I'm not that fond of quoting scripture before attempting to blow someone's brains out. I would be interested to know what's next for Jess and Mason, although I don't know that someone who still has terrible flashbacks is ideal for law enforcement.

This was quite an unrealistic story. The main characters were interesting and the way the story was told was good as well, but I couldn't get over the ridiculous premise and some of the very lucky breaks that the MCs had as well as the main "bad guys" motivation.

Action-packed thriller featuring a female ex-marine and a noble ex-con with a shared interest in a rescue dog kidnapped by corrupt cops. Likeable, damaged characters who naturally fall in love while saving the dog and the day.
